Discussion

This time of year we might be thinking about changing pricing, processes, engagement letters, etc.

What do you do? A few of us have never raised our prices, but this year some have sent out a letter

What level of detail do you include on your invoices?

  • Some don’t put any detail

  • Some put categories such as monthly organization, payroll, new hire set up, phone calls, special projects, special reporting,

  • Some put all the detail

To remember about flat fee/value billing vs hourly - Forget about the time, how important is this? If I’m faster does it mean its of any less value to you?

Check out Mark Wickersham’s multitude of information regarding this.

Alot consider making charges after March after the ordeal and now your wanting to make some changes

Engagement letters - some use some don’t use, but it is recommended to cover yourself and define your scope (usually there is cleanup involved). Also it elevates our term as “Bookkeeper” and shows professionalism to client and sets the stage up front t

Things to include on engagement letters:

  • Finding errors/auditing prior work. It could be, “I’m not liable/doing this for you, Im just telling you what i see and recommend, it is up to you do make a decision with this”

  • Offering tax advice

  • “My information and what I provide is only as good as the information i get. We expect communication, and this is the amount of time you can expect to hear back from us”

  • “Your lack of preparation does not equal my emergency”

  • “This is how you can communicate with me.” Can enable responders for email: here is how often i check my email, etc or if you haven’t heard back in so many days reach back out to me

Tip: If more than 1 person is in your team, you can paste emails into the note sections of clients in the Work center of QBOA

Different password managers

  • Liscio

  • 1Password

  • Last Pass

If you could change 1 thing process wise with clients what would it be?

  • Automation - reminders to clients - onboarding etc

  • Kijabi might be good to look into

  • Clickup is also good for templates and process management

It is very overwhelming to research and implement practice management- there are actually professionals you can pay to help you with this
